We hope that your summer has been enjoyable and that you are enjoying this time as a family! Here is some important information to be aware of for this upcoming school year, as of this time:

  1. Given our relatively small class sizes, all CA students will be attending school full time and in person. This is of course subject to change IF the COVID-19 infection rates rise again to such an extent that the governor shuts down schools again or the Department of Health gives us new/different guidelines than what we currently have.
  1. Teachers in the middle and high school will move from classroom to classroom each period, rather than having students mix and move in the hallways.
  1. We are working out details for staggered breaks and lunches, or considering lunches in classrooms.
  1. We had already significantly increased cleaning and disinfecting of common touch surfaces such as door knobs, push bars, railings, restrooms, etc., and will expand this schedule for the entire school.
  1. Daily temperature checks and masks (upon entry) will be required for all staff and students. Once students are seated in their classes, as we plan to have all students facing forward, they will be permitted to remove their masks.
  1. Some parents have asked if we have a color “code” for face masks. While it would be nice if the masks are in our Patriot school colors (navy blue, royal blue, white, grey and/or black or some combination of the above), we are more concerned that the masks are well-fitting/secure and are easy to put on and take off without adult help/supervision. We also recommend that your child brings a spare mask in his/her backpack.

I hope this information is somewhat helpful. We are still working out other detailed plans. Thank you in advance for your understanding that schools are in a tremendous predicament of how to balance having appropriate education and socialization while maintaining safety for each child, but we are doing our best to adjust and be flexible, as new instructions come to us from the Hawaii Department of Health.
